My bags are finally checked in, after a long discussion whether I should pay for an extra checked bag again. I claimed I'd already payed for it all the way to Stockholm when I checked in at Portland Airport. The lady behind the desk looked at me like I was crazy and reminded me that this was JFK, therefore I had to pay again. I pointed her towards my receipt and my flight ticket, telling her that it is ONE ticket, but instead of a regular transfer I decided to do a stop over. Desk lady flips her nails and says on her Brooklyn accent "I've nevah heard of that, giirrrrrrl!" So, apparently Delta took over the ticket (from my Swedish travel agency) once my original flight was cancelled. and their system displayed two separate flights; ... read more

I horded NYC impressions today by doing Times Square, The Met, Harlem, Central Park, 5th Ave and loads of walking. It's huge but still packed with people everywhere. Taking the subway at 4:30pm is almost not an option- got smashed in the doors twice. The hotel's OK, it's located just 1 minute walk from Union Square. Got here yesterday afternoon after being stuck in traffic for an hour and a half, in the cab from the airport. Apparently I've exceeded my 100lbs weight limit already so I'm kinda clueless as to how I'm gonna get everything home on Tuesday. The flight here was fortunately only 4,5 hours long and I tried to sleep during most of it since my plan to go to bed early on Thursday night failed miserably. Mine and Evan's plan of making ... read more

I will seriously never move between continents again. Stuff that I don't even remember buying keeps appearing and although I try to throw away as much as possible of what I know I'll never use again, it just keeps coming at me. I've already filled my first 50 lbs and will probably fill the other 50 with my 15 (!!!!) books that I've apparently bought. Was that really necessary? So, 3 days left at the office. It feels completely surreal. Tomorrow Liselotte and I are going into Portland to do some last Christmas shopping. Although with having serious problems packing already, I really don't know why we're going, haha, but it'll be nice to do one last thing together. On Wednesday we're having good bye drinks and dessert at the house. I was originally supposed to ... read more

Tomorrow's my last Thursday at the office. Which means I have 5 days left. I had my internship evaluation with Anna today which went really good, mostly because Anna is so honest and constructive in everything that she does, which makes her evaluation and assessment of my work such a valuable insight for me. She also provided me with my first real letter of recommendation! (I have one from Scandinavian Airlines from earlier this year, but it's in Swedish so it has kinda lost half its value already). I feel really sad for having to leave a job that I've come to feel so comfortable with and which has given me such a valuable insight in the international tourism business and the work of and behind an international NGO. All the networking and client relationship management, ... read more

I can only describe this weekend in two words; CRAZY FUN! On Thursday we had a really nice STI dinner at 6th Street Bistro as the latest employee addition, Brian, as well as the Marketing guy from Colorado, Matt, were at the office. I had 4 hours of sleep on Thursday night, which made Friday a very unproductive but all the more hilarious work day. I was so tired, that I kept laughing at the smallest things for no apparent reason. I believe it's called second wind. I did get some Great Green Travel Giveaway pricing instructions written down and started on lesson 5 of the educational material I'm reviewing for the National Academy Foundation. Later in the afternoon I went downtown with Liselotte, Nick, Erica and the kids, and watched the Christmas Parade and the ... read more

Back in the US after a 4½ day road trip up north. Thursday: I got up rather early, packed the car and started driving up north through Washington on Highway 97 for my first part of the trip; the Twin Peaks filming tour. Yes, I know it might seem lame. And no, I don't care. I've been wanting to go ever since I was 14 and saw the series for the first time. And now I had my chance, since it's only 3 hours from where I live. The main attraction was of course The Double R Diner. It turned out to be closed, since it was a holiday, but the owner (such a nice guy) let me in through the back, where he brought me through the kitchen and in to the restaurant. His entire ... read more

So, Thanksgiving yesterday was a success. I won't tell you too much about it, I'll get to a full weekend update on Monday when I'm back in the US, but I can say that it was great, being my first Thanksgiving and all. But as I was celebrating last night with people from all around the world (literally all continents except the poles) I started thinking about what I am grateful for. Being thankful for surviving long and difficult journeys, both physically and mentally, with the possibility of starting new and growing stronger, is something that we all should bear in mind. I am thankful for a life that I am able to shape and form almost independently, with free will and a future in sight. I am thankful for my health, even though I've had ... read more

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'll be leaving and heading north tomorrow morning to: 1) Check out Twin Peaks filming locations in North Bend, Snoqualmie and Fall City. Yes, I know it's completely nerdy. And no, I don't care. 2) Visit Seattle and hopefully find a restaurant that serves turkey and pumpkin pie. It'll be interesting to see what kind of people, besides myself, that eat out on Thanksgiving. 3) Continue north to Vancouver, BC 4) Go up to Whistler and Blackcomb. Maybe do a zipline tour if it's not too cold 5) Stop in Vancouver, Seattle and Olympia on my way back on Sunday/Monday I'll update with some pics when I get home again!... read more

I haven't really had time to update since last, and not much has happened either. Worked all week which was rather uneventful. Have gone to as many yoga classes as I've had time for and I'm really getting the hang of it now (e.g. being able to walk back home, up the crazy steep hill, without breaking down). On Thursday we had a really nice dinner at the house with a couple of people coming over. Liselotte brought too much wine which made Friday a veeeery long and tiredsome day at the office. In the evening she and I went to Hood River Valley High School and watched their production of Les Misèrable. It was surprisingly good! Loved their comic interpretation of The Thénardiers and "Master of the House". Saturday we went grocery shopping at Safeway. ... read more

So, apparently no one brought their office keys in this morning. When Liselotte and I arrived at 9am Nick had been climbing around on the walls and ceiling of the house for an hour, haha. Finally he gave up and broke into one of the windows on the second floor. Not so smooth but hilarious to watch. After a hectic weekend I'm planning on taking it slow this week. I have Fly class tonight at 5:30 pm, flow yoga tomorrow and hot yoga on Wednesday. Hopefully the pictures I ordered to be developed, will arrive early this week too, so I can start my photo album/scrapbook. On Thursday we have dinner at our house with a couple of people, where I plan to finally serve the Americans some glögg. On Friday me and Liselotte are planning ... read more
